What Is a Zero VOC Concrete Stain?

To understand what a Zero VOC concrete stain is, we must look at the individual words to truly grasp the concept. A VOC is a chemistry term commonly used in the testing of substances present in liquids and is actually short for a “Volatile Organic Compound”. Generally, chemists use the term volatile to describe a liquid that evaporates at room temperature. They use the word organic simply to show that it is a compound that contains carbon. And, a compound is a combination of two or more substances mixed together.

There is an abundance of different VOCs that can be either natural or man-made, that are ultimately measured by scientists in the air surrounding or produced by a chemical mixture or machine that uses one. For example, when you get a smog check done on the registration of your car, the government is testing for VOC emissions related to the combustion that occurs during the engine use.

So, although a Zero VOC concrete stain may sound like a difficult thing to understand, it is really quite simple and is the way that chemists are able to determine the toxicity and other factors of a chemical compound. If the product tests as a Zero VOC, that means that there is no harmful or toxic measured from that substance – EZ Stain is very proud to to announce that all of our products are Zero VOC and also are able to maintain a very high standard for quality that is guaranteed 100%.

What is an MSDS?

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a safety document that contains information on the potential hazards (health, fire, reactivity and environmental) and how to work safely with the chemicals included in a product. It is required for the development of a complete health and safety program. Below you can see that EZ Stain has a zero VOC listing and therefor is not required to have any special safety protocol.
